Ann Curry Gets Her Ego Stroked

Posted by Geoffrey Dickens on May 24, 2006 - 17:54.

Hey got a new book? Want it featured on the Today show? Try putting Ann Curry on the cover! The new book Extraordinary Women: Fantasies Revealed was featured in the 9:30 half hour of this morning's Today show. The cover of the book happens to feature Curry actually embracing the Earth. Curry even appeared as a guest on the segment with the book's authors. Natalie Morales conducted the interview and revealed Ann's not-so-secret fantasy: "And Ann the reason you are holding the globe is you talk about wanting to be a humanitarian, which as a journalist, I mean you do, I mean that's really a priority in your life." But one of the book's authors Ilene Leventhal pointed out Curry, as a liberal crusading journalist, is already living her dream: "I said to Ann, I said, 'Ann you already are a humanitarian.'"

Judging from some of the book's photos aired during the segment Curry is in good liberal company. Among the photos featured were ones of former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright playing chess, White House correspondent Helen Thomas in pearls, Sen. Barbara Mikulski in a lab coat, author Kitty Kelley sporting a mink stole and even former Rep. Patricia Schroeder in a super hero costume.

The Fox, the Mouse, the Peacock and that Big-Ass Eyeball

Not to be outdone, the Peacock leaked the bombshell that Katie Couric would be jumping the Today ship at the end of May to serve the venerable Eyeball that is CBS as the nation's first female network news anchor. Who oh who could possibly replace her on Today? Anne Curry?..Natalie Morales?.. no wait..of course! the blonde from The View. On a roll, NBC, through Matt Lauer, announced that the first hour of Todaywould be available any time through their MSNBC site. No explanation was offered why those insightful fashion and cooking segments would not be available.

Morales Doing Show on SciFi Channel

NBC's Today Show host Matt Lauer and NBC News correspondent Natalie Morales are taking a jaunt over to the Sci-Fi Channel to host two specials for the genre cable network.

[...] Morales will host a show of a different type called "Quest for Atlantis," in which she will take a look at the various legends that surround the mythic city (or landmass) and the fabled flood or massive earthquake that brought Atlantis to its ultimate demise. Natalie will also look at the tale of Atlantis through the eyes of more recent developments and archeological findings.

Aint She a Good Ann Curry Replacement?

Ain't It Cool News

In many ways, I like Ann Curry the most because she seems to be the most sincere. But as the morning show co-anchor on NBC, she falls a little short. First, if I had to categorize her, she's a bit "somber" in mood as compared to Couric or Natalie Morales (or even Campbell Brown or any of the other MSNBC fill ins for that matter) and people want happy/chipper when they're getting up in the morning. Mind you, it's not like there's a cloud of darkness surrounding her, it's just that it's not that bright and sunny either. Also, she's not a great interviewer... which may stem from the problem that she doesn't seem all that bright and you need someone who's fast on their feet, esp when they're paired up with Lauer who's got a quick wit. I think Natalie Morales is good as the "Ann Curry Replacement" sitting at the news desk and doing occaisional segments.

Natalie Morales to become a regular on NBC's 'Today' show

Longtime contributor to NBC's "Today," Natalie Morales, has been promoted to national correspondent, it was announced in New York Thursday.

Morales has filled in for the departing Katie Couric, among others, on the morning news show and was among the candidates for Couric's job, which went to Meredith Vieira, The Hollywood Reporter said.

NBC rewarded Morales by making her national correspondent, which means in addition to her reporting duties, she will regularly appear during the third hour of "Today."
